Financial Advice

Planning ahead is the best way to protect your financial future and here at the Chelsea we'd like to help. If you need to work out the best way to manage your money for the future, and you don't have the time or expertise to find the right products, the chances are you will need the help of a financial consultant.

Many people first visit a financial consultant because of major events in their lives, or because they want to review their current circumstances. But it's never too early or too late to start planning:

Helping you plan ahead

We’re here to get you where you want to be in the future. And one thing’s for sure, life is always full of surprises: Your family might have grown quicker than you expected. You might be unable to work through a critical illness. You might live to be 100. Or, you might lose someone before their time, no one can predict what could happen.

The only sensible plan you can make is to expect the unexpected and take advice if you need it, on how you can prepare your finances to deal with it.

Once you’ve made the decision to take financial advice, thanks to our relationship with Legal & General, you can be confident that you’ll be listening to one of the most respected names in the business. Most importantly, they’ll be listening to you.

What to expect from Legal & General

Initially, you will speak to your Legal & General financial consultant over the phone. They will spend some time understanding you and your needs and you can provide the information requested whilst in the comfort of your own home.

At the end of the call, an appointment will be booked for you to meet with your Legal & General financial consultant in person in your local branch.

As a customer you won’t have to pay for this advice unless you choose to invest. If for whatever reason you decide not to proceed, you won’t have to pay a penny.

What's important to you

What matters to you, is what matters to us most. But sometimes people come for an appointment without any clear idea about what they want from their financial future or how to go about securing it.

Here's an outline of some of the topics people typically want to discuss with a Legal & General financial consultant, along with some food for thought that you might want to consider before coming in:

Protecting the family
Have you ever worried about where the money would come from if you weren’t around or a critical illness left you too ill to work? Thankfully, there are ways to protect your home, family and standard of living should the worst happen and your Legal & General financial consultant will be happy to talk through the options worth considering.

It’s worth thinking about the following:

  • Do you have life cover with your mortgage and is it enough?
  • Do you have any life cover with your employer and is it enough?
  • Do you need to think about protecting your partner as well as yourself?

Investing for your future
Once you’re prepared for the worst things in life, how about saving for the best?  From seeing your kids graduate or get married, to investing in another home, or spoiling grandchildren yet to come, we all hope to have enough money for the good times. Your Legal & General financial consultant will look at how hard your money is working, and what you want to achieve. Then they’ll give you a clear understanding of your options.

It’s worth thinking about the following to help you clarify your savings goals:

  • Do you want to help protect your savings from inflation?
  • Can you afford to risk losing as well as potentially making money?
  • Do you want your savings to give you growth or an income?

Planning for your retirement
The good news is we’re all living longer; the bad news is that means we’ll all need to save more for our retirement. So it’s more important than ever to put a pension plan in place early.

Even if you’ve already started a pension, chances are your circumstances are now very different. Your Legal & General financial consultant can help you find out if you are on track towards the retirement you’re hoping for. Looking at questions like these in your meeting will help your Legal & General financial consultant to come up with a plan:

  • Will you be able to maintain your lifestyle when you retire?
  • Do you understand all the pension options available to you?
  • Do you need help working out how much you need to set aside?
  • If you’ve got a number of pensions, are they in the best place?

You should know that the value of investments may fall as well as rise and you may get back less than you invested.

Leaving money for your loved ones
With more people than ever having to plan for the possibility of loved ones being left with a potential Inheritance Tax bill, it makes sense to work out how to leave more of your money in the hands of your nearest and dearest, rather than the government.

Your chat with a Legal & General financial consultant could cover questions like these:

  • Do you have a will in place?
  • Do you know if your whole estate would be liable for Inheritance Tax?
  • Would you like to learn more about tax-efficient ways to deal with your assets?

You should know that not all forms of Inheritance Tax Planning are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

At the end of the interview
You will be free to take out a policy or open a new account or go away and think things over. If you want to come back for another chat, that's fine too.
